Dragging

Insect count: 0! Yesterday was almost 1 - I swept out a centipede that was trying to get into my place. *shudder* but yay! Protected! :D

This week thus far is dragging its feet. I keep thinking it's Friday and it's only Monday. Then this morning, "It's Friday! ... Oh wait, it's Tuesday." I think it's just the pre-summer vacation readiness. I guess I'm like a child on a long (or if you're an unlucky parent even short) car ride. "Is it here yet? Is it here yet?"

Last night I had nightmares all night. I would wake up freaked out and then have to get back to sleep. Then I did it all over again! Not the best... The morning was ok though I didn't use my time very well. I didn't get to take my trash out like I had planned so it will have to wait until Friday. Other than that, everything was fine. The bus was steamy but I was ok. It was like sitting in a sauna. I couldn't see Japan at all because only the driver's window was clear. IMO, he should have turned on the a/c! Oh well. Probably one of those, "My grandmother always said cold air in the morning would kill you!" I survived well.

At the school I was locked out of the teacher's room so I had to wait until the meeting was over to get in. That was no great tragedy though. I like to be in the meeting but I understand so little. As one of the PE teachers walked by my desk I said good morning and saw his shirt as he passed me. It looked like it said, "ghlop." I was cracking up and kept saying ghlop to myself. Then when he passed my desk again later I could see that it was actually "ghbp" - the graphic in the letter b makes it look like an l,o. LOL Anyway, I did some prep before the two classes I taught today and got some good work in. Today both my third grade classes were working on summaries. The classes were enjoyable and looking over the worksheet I found something that made me laugh and that one student also wrote yesterday (and I forgot to mention). Their chapter is on Yo-Yo Ma. Part 1 talks about him growing up and tells a story of how he left his Stradivarius Cello in a NY taxi. The loss was reported in newspapers and it was returned unharmed. (That covers 3 questions on the worksheet!) The question that asks, "What happened? (What did people do?)" asking about the return of the cello was answered this way: somehow magic. LOL It must be a phrase from the chapter since one student wrote it yesterday and one wrote it today. Either that or the last English teacher taught them that when they didn't understand the question or didn't know how to answer it, they could say, "It's magic!" LOL Either way, I got a laugh.

The students were going to have a fire drill today and then it was changed to an earthquake drill. I was told I could go or stay and I opted to stay since they were having an assembly. (And once again, I get very little out of it and wanted to work on some prep instead.) As the teachers left they turned out the lights (which was fine by me) but another teacher came in at some point and was all freaked out because I was sitting in the dark. LOL Well, it's overcast outside so it was fairly dark/shady. I think he thought I didn't know where the lights were or that I was allowed to have them on. He turned them on apologizing and I kept saying it was ok. I prefer natural lighting but am unable to say that in Japanese so as far as he is concerned I was talking to myself. Hopefully he doesn't think I was grumbling to myself.

I did prep and learned another kanji until it was time to leave. The bus ride home was great - a/c! When school was wrapping up, suddenly I was struck by a really bad migraine. On the bus it got progressively worse. By the time I got off I was hurrying home to throw up in my own toilet rather than on the street. I laid down when I got back to my place, covered my eyes, and drank some water. I ate a little popcorn (hoping it wasn't for lack of food) and tried to massage my neck and temples. It got worse and worse. I almost called off going to taiko practice. Thank goodness I didn't! I had taken some pain reliever I bought here - did nothing. I took almost my very last bit of tylenol that I brought and THAT took the edge off. Taiko practice was very demoralizing for me though. It seems I can drum or I can dance, but both at the same time!? Oh man... I wish I had a drum so I could practice at home (my neighbors are probably feeling thankful right now and don't even know why, lol!). The pain has been greatly reduced, thankfully. After 2 hours of practice, I rode my bike home through a swamp (it's SUPER humid out - worse than during the day!). Now I am hurrying to get ready for bed as I have been yawning all day so I'm sure the lack of good sleep I've had lately is a huge factor in this migraine. When I got home I put on my dehumidifier for a bit so I could feel good in my own skin again. Hope you're all doing well - and please say a little prayer for me that I will be able to sleep well and feel better tomorrow. (Oh, also I ate some dinner when I got back - I was starving! Did have the stomach or the time to eat earlier.) Love you all! XOXO, A
