Sacrament meeting and Sunday School were wonderful today! I was really rejuvenated by the whole experience. I took some notes on things I want to improve and just felt really good about the whole thing!
When I was sick a couple Sundays back, my home teacher and another guy from the ward dropped off bananas, oranges, and an electrolyte drink. The following Sunday I gave them each a handwritten thank you note and a cookie. All I was able to write in hiragana was the "thank you" part. So Brother Fujimura came up to me today before Sacrament meeting started and asked me if I had written the hiragana in the note. I said yes and he said that I wrote beautifully! :D If nothing else, I know the stroke order was correct. I was SO appreciative of that compliment though (mmm). I'm getting there. Little by little!
We have a half hour between after church and then the LEG class (Let's Enjoy Gospel). I was going to attend and then ended up talking to my mom, Nadia, and my dad for over an hour. It was really great to talk to them, but then I felt badly about missing the meeting. Also I was supposed to be visit taught. Luckily the ladies were still there and not angry with me for making them wait. They spoke less English than I do Japanese so it was a very interesting visit. :) It was very sweet though and they asked me if I had any "shinpai" (cares - I think this might also double as "worries" in this context) and I told them I wanted a ride to buy a few things I needed for my apartment that I have needed FOREVER (an iron, a rug, a pad for my bed since this hard floor is making me sleep poorly, a lamp, and a blanket ~for when winter rolls around). So Sister Sasaki said she would give me a ride! YAY! So on June 8th (since there is training this Saturday and Bryan hinted he might want me to come as I mentioned yesterday), I will be able to buy the rest of my stuff for my apartment. I'm so grateful (mmm)! --Also she gave me a piece of cake. I don't care for cake, but Japanese cake is INCREDIBLE! I don't see myself suddenly becoming addicted to it, but now I don't dread the potential "cake and ice cream" at birthdays. Now to be invited to a birthday party...
After that I rode my bike home, and made myself some lunch. I spoke to some friends and relaxed. Even though I can't do NOTHING for long periods of time, I wish I had a couple days of break left. Oh well, today WAS really great and I feel very hopeful about this week. :)
Funny moments:
Today was HOT (and unfortunately tomorrow is going to be even hotter). So I decided rather than wear my pants (as I have done the past two Sundays) to bike to church, I would just wear my knee-length skirt. My jeans have holes on the inner thighs now, my other pants got ripped up in my bike chain... and I have a pair of shorts I wear to work out and they say "touchdown" on the bum. Ya... So I went with a skirt. Well, there was wind... LOL I called myself a "traveling-peep-show on facebook," and ya, pretty much.
I also want to share a coworker's funny moment. In the US, when you drop someone off after a date, you SHOULD walk them to the door, but if you don't, you at least watch them go to the door (make sure they get home safely). Here in Japan, the person you drop off watches you drive away. So my coworker took this girl on a date and when she got out of the car, he sat there. She stood there. And finally he realized what was going on and was like, "Oh crap!" And drove off. LOL
